Satan and Hell

“The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”
– The Usual Suspects

I like that movie. And the quote was very cool, but somewhat inaccurate.

Let me tell you something. The devil doesn’t exist. Lucifer, Beelzebub, Satan, whatever you want to call him. He’s not real. And it’s not a trick that he’s pulled to convince you of that, and neither am I one of his demonic minions come to convince you. (Although, if I was, I probably would tell you I wasn’t…)

Remember what I wrote about Chinese whispers? Lucifer wasn’t God’s 2nd in command, as some would have you believe. In fact, Lucifer never existed as an angel, or as a devil. It was the name given by your ancestors to Venus, the Morning Star. It comes from Latin: lucis (light) and ferre (to bring), and meant ‘the bringer of dawn’.

The name ‘Lucifer’ was first used about 1500 years ago in the ‘Vulgate Bible’, one of the earliest versions of ‘Chinese whispers’ that humanity’s been playing with, and was actually a personal insult by the translator at that time against a bishop he knew called Lucifer. The name stuck, and has been used ever since. Some things just don’t go away…

The name ‘Satan’ actually comes from Iran, when it was known as Persia. A prophet named Zoroaster talked about the struggle between good and evil, naming Satan as the Prince of Darkness. Over the years, Satan has played various parts in the Hebrew Bible, the Apocrypha, and the New Testament. He never appeared in the Old Testament. The Hebrews had Satan as an angel that God used to test mankind, while the other two Bibles had him as an evil demon who was the enemy of God and mankind.

Anyway, enough of the history lesson. The point is that Lucifer / Satan / whatever-you-want-to-call-him, is an element of fiction. Something to scare children late at night and hopefully make them go to sleep. Or to watch out for strangers, who just might be Satan in disguise…

What’s been really interesting for us observers is how the idea of Satan has affected you over the milennia. It’s affected your psyche so much that you start believing Satan is at work in everything that goes wrong in your lives. If you believe in Satan, of course.

Some of you believe it so strongly that you create entire worlds in your minds of what Hell must be like, and write stories and paint pictures and make movies. Hell exists only in the minds of humans. It’s not a reality that you go to if you’ve been bad!

The worst thing is, this deeply-held belief about Hell can affect the after life. If you believe you’ve been bad, and that you deserve to be damned for all eternity, then when you die in this world you actually go to a Hell that you create for yourself.

Do you think that Creation is just God’s domain? You create your reality here on this planet, with the thoughts and the actions that you commit yourselves to. You also create your reality beyond this life that you have, and you can create Hell or Heaven.

Satan and Hell don’t exist. The greatest trick humanity ever pulled was to convince themselves he does! It helps avoid responsibility though, which is nice and convenient.

“The devil made me do it! His evil words in my mind manipulated me into foul doings!”

Poppy cock.

Hmm… isn’t God, though, just another fiction? Moses might have received tablets of stone from him, but… then again, someone might just have written about that once, in a rather dreary whodunnit?

  2. angelblog says:

The fiction is in how God has been described and portrayed by those who have created the various bibles and ‘holy books’ throughout the various religions. Some of them get parts of the description right, but none of them individually get all of it right.

See the post on ‘Chinese whispers’ for more on that.

Thanks for commenting Agnos, nice to have you here.

  3. Jack Yan says:

When I first read that Satan did not exist, it felt like a weight off my shoulders and a massive confirmation from Spirit. And you know, I have been a calm guy ever since, for the last seven years. Not a heck of a lot fazes me.

  4. angelblog says:

Hello Jack, it’s good to see you here. I’m really pleased that a weight was lifted from you when you discovered in your heart that Satan was only a myth. Being freed from the fears of humanity can be so liberating, can’t it?

  5. Agnos says:

How strange… I felt the weight lifted when I realised I was responsible for my life, and that happened when I realised there was no God…

That meant all I had to fear was humanity, but I can deal with them.

I, too, am glad that life is good for you, Jack.

  6. BadGuy says:

Agnos: I wonder how will you explain that when Jesus looks you in the face.

Also if you felt a weight on yourself because of God, then you’re a fool. God does not intend to put weight(s) on anyone. You have renounced him, and unless you realise that the day of judgement WILL come (wether you believe or not) and you have to turn to Jesus for forgiveness, he will renounce you too at that fateful moment.

As to the blogger saying “we create our own reality”: Go out on the road and try your own poison, you’ll see it’s not you creating reality when a car hits you. That is of course, if you’re wrong. If I am wrong you can walk in front of a car as reality is what we create for ourselves and you won’t be harmed.

My reality finds it a lot more comfortable to not have to eat and drink, now if I don’t eat and drink, I will die soon, is it me creating a reality for myself?

Read the book of Job, one of the older books of the Old Testament, satan is there. He’s the accuser who tries to get Job to turn away from God. Read it, see it.

Saying “omg it was found up in china” is quite biased, where was that bishop when the book of Job was written?

  7. BadGuy says:

Don’t make the mistake that many make by believing historically unbased propaganda like the Da Vinci Code and the gospel of Judas.

I sincerely warn you, just as Paul did warn his own.

    2Thessalonians

2Thess 2:2 “That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.”

By letter as from us=A letter which says it is from us, while it is not.

It was written nearly 2 thousand years ago. Do not rely on the doctored “freshly discovered “”"”facts”"”".”

You will get harmed by believing everything that removes the responsibility from you.

Dear blogger, you’re also wrong about this. People get punished by God who were deceived by satan, there is no excuse, the Bible is full of examples of God righteously judging those who followed the creature instead of the Creator.

    Paul to the romans

    Romans 1:20
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”

    Romans 1:25
“Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”

No excuse here. Serve the creature, get owned, simply put.

Your way of thinking satan is an excuse to sin is completely unfounded. Actually it is satan who makes sinning even more punishable.

  8. Agnos says:

I could be glib and say ‘If I meet Jesus, it means I’ll live forever, and I still win’ but I won’t.

If, and I don’t think it will happen, I meet Jesus after I die, I’ll say ‘I told the truth, I was as good a man as I thought I could be at the time’, and if I’m judged on that and bad things happen, then God’s not worth the worship, frankly.

You just don’t get it, do you ‘bad guy’. Obviously, if you go out on the road and a car hits you, then you’ve just created for yourself that reality. You made the choice, you reap the rewards.

You mustn’t be very smart to talk about creating a result, and then using that to ‘prove’ that reality isn’t what you create.

You KNOW that if you go on the road, you’re likely to get hit by a car. So if you CHOOSE to go on the road, then you are CREATING the reality that you know will result from your actions.

    End of subject.

    There’s no Satan, huh??
The bible predicted the fall of the two twin brothers—A.K.A.—New York’s twin towers on September 11th, the incident of 911.
I hate to shatter your little world, but there is a Satan—wether you’re afraid to aknowledge it or not.
You see…people like you are so terrified of the truth, that the only conclusion you can come up with to block your mind from the truth, is to tell yourself that he’s not real.
    BUT HE IS REAL!!
I mean, who do you think gave you the idea to create this demonic and deceitful website to begin with??
Of course he wants you and everyone else to think that he doesn’t exist, because that way, you’ll stop believing in God as well.
Wars have started over things like this and I see visions of things that would make you piss like a puppy, so regardless of your fear, Satan does exist and you’re damned to hell if you insist on listening to his lies.

  12. Hey ,
I don’t know what your name is but I really agree with what your saying to everyone.
This thing with Satan has been going around since well forever basiclly. Not that I’m trying to scare you though, if he doesn’t exist then why do I see something of him all the time since I was 6 or 7 years old? I’ve been seeing dark and light entities from a kid till now. I’d really like to talk to you ,I’m 19 yrs old.
    see ya.

  16. Maribel says:

Why doesn’t God destroy him? He’s the source of all evil. On the old testament, the creator destroys humans instead, why can’t he destroy his real enemy? Unless he maybe a metaphor. I read the bible and the way I interpret refers Satan as sin and man. If it’s not really a being, then it’s just something we created from our own freewill.

  18. Greg Long says:

Maribel- Satan is an Angel, just as Saint Michael is an Angel.
Despite what you may read in Alan’s weblog, Satan is real.
Angels are pure spirits though from time to time they do have the power to take on physical form.
We know that in our physical world there is life and death.
Spirit, however, is eternal. Your spirit (soul) is eternal. So is Satan’s. So is Saint Michael’s.
God created spirits to be, of nature, eternal from their creation. That is at least one reason why you should be more than casually interested in your own soul.

  19. Angel Blogger says:

Maribel, God is unable to destroy Satan just as much as he’s unable to destroy you. Satan exists only in the minds of man. There’s nothing to destroy. Only you have the power to destroy Satan’s influence in your life, which is ultimately a reflection only of your own negativite feelings and attitudes. When you can control your own negativity, then you can control Satan. He is your creation, not God’s.

Greg is a proponent of supporting humanity’s greatest trick on itself. Us Angels really wish you’d move away from that self-destructive belief and move on towards accepting your own love and light for each other.

  20. Greg Long says:

Well there you have it, Maribel.

  22. Marie says:

Then how do you explain negative spirits that exist in immediate surroundings, in food, etc.? They most certainly are there if you can look through the hidden eye, which also does exist. Surroundings, I think, are not entirely solid as most people may think they are – they are constantly in motion. And there are spirits (demons?) from a very subtle realm that can slightly shape things in the physical world – piles of clothing, blankets, food… physical objects that are especially pliable, moldable, to make themselves known. More solid objects can be formed to produce certain shapes and figures as well, but I don’t think my sight is ‘high’ enough to detect most of these. The same ‘molding’ applies to other things as well – for example, soap bubbles in water, though I’ve noticed that patterns that come from water and bubbles (or objects placed in water, like bath toys) are usually not menancing at all, but rather, insightful or enlightening in some way.

Whether these shapes and faces appear in life through the mind’s eye, from the imagination itself, or if they are incarnations of something that independently exists, I do not know. But this makes me think and believe for myself that there is something menacing on the slight vibrational level that is true living, where the soul connects to the body – but for what purpose, I haven’t been able to determine. I hope someone reading who has before detected these spirits in physical surroundings can help provide a little bit of extra insight.

It’s hard for me to pursue this because seeing these things frighten me so much, sometimes. Trying to open up is very frightening, and it frustrates me that I don’t know the reason for this fear. It can’t be for the sake of fear, at least I don’t want to believe this…
